Course description: I teach this class as a diversified Co-op, so it does not matter what type of job a student has (restaurant, business, retail). Students will get 3 credits for having a job. They will come to my class 1 period a day with the option of building more work periods into their schedule because they earn 3 credits. It is fun, interactive, and project based. We have lots of class discussions about what is happening at their jobs. Little to no homework. Topics covered: How to get hired: resumes, applications, interviewing, thank you letters. How to be a good employee: attitude, etiquette, communication, team building, importance of punctuality, effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace, diversity, ethics, sexual harassment, safety, conflict management, and stress management How to do your taxes, money management. and, entrepreneurship. Major assignments: Employer Evaluations-I will go visit each job site each six weeks to find out how the student is doing and give employers the job evaluation. ***If students lose their jobs or just quit without previous discussion with the teacher, they will receive an automatic 69 for the grading period. They will have 2 weeks to find a new job. |
